Q: iMac Going Black Screen after Waking

If this is the wrong forum, my apologies...

I'm having an issue that has just started over the last two weeks or so.  My iMac (hardware overview below) is going black screen after waking.  The thing is, it's not immediately going black screen.  For example, I woke the computer this morning, went to a website to check on something and about five minutes after the wake, it goes black screen and won't restart.  I can hear the CD drive cycling as if it is trying to eject a disc, but there is no disc in the drive.  I typically have to turn the computer off for several minutes before it will finally restart.  Sometimes it wont' go black screen, but will instead restart 2 or 3 times (gray screen with a progress bar) before going black or, sometimes, finally totally booting.  The iMac was NOT hot to the touch this morning when it went black.  I know the 24" units (mine is an early 2008) had overheating issues, but it was not hot.  Any ideas?
