In iPhoto, I could access and backup the information I entered on folders, faces, images comments and groupings by using the albumdata.xml file.
Is there a similar XML or other accessible file in the new 2015 Photos program? Am looking for something in XML (or another format) to allow me to export the meta data and other stuff I spend hours inputting.

This sounds like you can get metadata for a single photo... I am looking for a method to build an XML tree for my entire 33K picture library at once so other programs can find the source files and display them outside of Photos. In iPhoto there was an actual XML file and I am trying to figure out a way to replicate that in Photos. I thought possibly a 3rd party scraper that can go through the database and build the info needed into an XML file that another program could read. I wouldn't want to edit the original photos, just view them...Specifically, I want to provide a compatible XML file for my Plex server to use.

In the meantime, I have an AppleScript program to at least get the folder names and list of files in each folder. It's clunky and I can't access the "faces" or other metadata, just what is in the "Tell Photos" item list.
You can export the iPTC metadata in a file when you export the original photos:
However, there's no way to extract the metadata or back it up except to backup the library.

BUMP! I am interested in this as well... are there any third party tools that can scrape the Photos library and build an XML map/tree for using in an external viewer?
Is there an albumdata.XML file for Photos now that iPhoto is gone?
