Q: sound problems on iPad 3more

hi I realise there are probably other posts about sound problems but I can't find any with the same symptoms as my problem.

for some reason I have no sound on my iPad 3, when I use the buttons on the side of the iPad to adjust the sound it doesn't do anything and the volume bar doesn't come up on the screen as it used to. Also when I swipe up to get the control centre up there is no volume bar on there either!

when I use my headphones the sound is very intermittent mmore off then on!

any suggestions would be helpful I thought It might be a software issue but I have updated to the latest version of iOS and it's still doing it!
