Cannot update ipad2 from version 4.3.5

When I try to update from 4.3.5 (8L1) through itunes, I keep getting the following error message:

"The ipad software update server could not be contacted.

Make sure your network settings are correct, and your network connection is active, or try again later."

I am connected to my desktop, the network settings for WiFi are correct and I have strong signal from my router... i tried several different days.

Neither the "Update" nor the "Restore" buttons work - i get the same message with both...i am at a loss - please help! 🙂

Yes it is an old ipad...and yes i am very far behind. I am now getting that error message when I search for itunes updates...so i may have a firewall issue or something. I purchase from itunes all the time, so I'm not sure why this is not connecting. i ran the diagnostics, but 1 item failed.

Thank you for your help!

This sounds like a desktop problem with your iTunes. There would also be an option for you to remove iTunes from the computer and then reinstall it. A regular firewall in Windows should not block iTunes or the install. If you desire to delete iTunes and then reinstall, you will need to delete it using this support document. Follow the instructions completely. Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support
