Q: Purchased New PC. How do I get music from old to new?
My old PC slowly dieing so purchased new one, (Windows 8.1 operating system). I can access my music on the old PC and on my iPOD shuffle. Downloaded iTunes on the new PC. Plugged in my shuffle into the new machine but do not understand how transfer from shuffle to new PC. I have a thumb drive... can I load music from old PC onto the new PC by putting in the iTune folder on the hard drive? My shuffle needs to be restored about twice a year. Am going to erase the hard drive from the old PC and get it to the recycle center. If I need to restore again will lose all my music. My music is about 1/2 cd's, the rest purchased on iTunes. Thanks for any help.

I am responding to myself as I found out how to do this and there others following. Go to iTunes Help at How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support. I followed instructions for using an external drive, (I used a thumb drive), though there instructions for putting up on the iCloud.
1. First load iTunes on your new PC.
2. Boot up old PC. Go to My Computer, My Music, iTunes.
3. Drag iTunes folder onto desktop..
4. Insert your thumb drive. Drag iTunes folder from desktop to your external drive, (thumb drive in my case). Make sure you have a thumb drive that is big enough to hold this folder. My iTune folder was 800MB. I only have 60 songs in my library. My thumb drive is 60GB and was purchased as a gift for under $30. Your old PC will then copy your iTune folder to your thumb drive. This may take a few minutes.
5. On your new PC go to My Computer, Music, iTunes. Insert your thumb drive in the new PC, open it and drag the iTune folder from it to the iTune folder on your new PC. You will see each song being copied onto you new PC.
6. Once done your music will be on the new PC. Check and play a tune!
7. I then put my iPod into the new PC, an icon will come up in iTunes. I clicked on sync and apply to see if the new PC iTune folder would sync my iPod to the library on the new PC. It did!!
One song I purchased on iTunes would not copy saying it was not Authorized. Why I do not know. Finding a way to keep 59 out of 60 was deemed a success!!!!! Hope this helps anyone else.
