Apple watch sound stopped working.

The sound on my Apple watch has stopped working when I get alerts, start a workout (the countdown) etc.

The haptics still seem to be working fine.

I have tried resetting it and this didn't work.

I have tried un-pairing it too. If I un-pair it and then re-pair it, setting it up as a new watch the sound works.

If I un-pair it then re-pair, restoring a backup the sound does not work.

I am assuming that the problem has saved in the backup so each time I restore, it restores the same problem again.

Does this suggest a software issue rather than a hardware issue?

I have checked all the settings in the Apple watch app on my iphone and the sound settings are switched on.

Any suggestions?

Many Thanks!

Un-pairing/re-pairing the watch and setting it up as a new watch appears to be the only way to solve the problem.

I couldn't restore a back up because it looks like the problem was saved in the back up.

The watch is syncing fine with the activity app on my iPhone today so it was obviously as I thought, a confliction of data yesterday.

Also the activity app on my iPhone has not lost any of my activity history which is what I was worried about it I set my watch up as a new watch.

No other problems from setting it up as a new watch either, texts still come through fine, phone calls etc.

Problem solved for now. Lets hope it doesn't do it again! 🙂

All good advice, but a word of caution. Before you go through the time consuming process of unpairing and re-pairing, make sure your watch is not in silent mode (you may have accidentally muted it) and make sure it's not mirroring a muted iPhone.

I've had this problem twice. The first time it happened I tried everything and then finally had to unpair and re-pair. I used the backup from the last OS update rather than the update created when I unpaired it (most recent) because I thought the problem might have been picked up in that backup. It worked, but it took up way too much time. The second time it happened I was exercising, and I realized I probably had covered my watch in the process, which muted it, so I checked first to make sure it wasn't in silent mode. It was. All I had to do was take it off sllent mode and all was good again.

Thank you for the reply. I have double checked my mirroring settings but it is not this causing it. I don't ever mute my phone anyway. At the moment I have left it set up as a new watch rather tham restoring a back up and it's working fine but I would really like to use the backup because it has all my activity history.

Currently it is not syncing properly with the activity app on my phone since I've set it up as a new watch. It has the old information on the iPhone app, but none of the exercise I have done today since. I guess this could just be due to data confliction.. I can't see a way to reset the activity app on the phone either. I will wait and see what it does tomorrow on that front. It might sort itself out.

I've tried restoring the back up several times now and the sound goes every time. It's a shame I don't have a back up saved previous to the sound disappearing to test out.
