My original iPod Shuffle (3rd Gen) broke, and I thought I was good to go with my iPhone headphones, but have not been able to get the remote functions to work. Did something break in the Shuffle or am my trying to use an orange where I need an apple?

Any of Apple's headphones should work with any iPod. It sounds like the iPod's headphone jack needs cleaning. I would suggest spraying it compressed air and using a q-tip.

Just found out they do not, but there are several companies that sell the old controllers that can convert normal headphones into old iPod Shuffle compatible headphones (including Apple's new headphones).
Should the new iPhone headphones work on an iPod shuffle 3rd generation?
