Q: What kind of disk is preferred when burning a DL DVD?

I have a few DVDs that I need to back up.  I can make ISO files with no trouble, but every time I try to burn a new disk they fail to write completely.  I've tried both -R and +R DL DVDs, but in either case they fail to complete the burn (neither seems to work better).  I've barely ever used the optical drive on this Macbook Pro (it has a Matshita DVD-R UJ-898) so I'm not sure if anything tends to work more reliably.  Thoughts?

Cheers!

Are the dvd's from the same brand. Ive had issues - long ago - with certain brands working better than others. You could try the dvd's in another computer and see if they burn correctly. Also I've seen drives go bad for no reason.

Excellent point.  I've used mainly Verbatim and Maxell so far, but I'll see what other brands are available around here.  I have gotten around my immediate need by using my office PC, so I have a little more time to experiment with the drive in my MBP.  This is its second optical drive, so I wouldn't be surprised if you're right about it going bad.
