Q: Did Compressor 4.2 deprecate hinting for live streaming?

I've been using the same workflow for years.  Now several of my videos are not hinted after running through Compressor 4.2.  This started just after I installed the update.  Do I need to find a replacement for my good ol' reliable Darwin Streaming Server?

Do you have Optimize for Network checked?

yes, it's checked. I wasn't sure if that was it, it's so hard to find specific details on what all the options do.   "

    • Optimize for network use: Select this checkbox to create a file that will start playing after only a small portion of the file has been downloaded from the network.

    doesn't tell me much.

I'm also not aware of a bulletproof way to interrogate a movie file to find this out. If you know of an application that does, please post.

As you probably know, QT Pro will export a hinted movie file. And once added, two hinted tracks are reported in properties.

I used mp4creator on Linux.  It looks like Macports has mpeg4ip-server which includes it.  I'm going try to install it at work tomorrow.
