Q: Slow wake up after sleep/hibernation/safe sleep/etc.

Hi all,

When my macbook is waken up from a prolonged period of time after closing the lid, it takes approximately 5 minutes to function. During this time, the optical drive makes a sound like that when starting up, and then the screen shows foggy white with a progress bar (as shown in figure). When the progress bar finally finishes, I still have to wait for another 1 to 2 minutes to be able to move the mouse!

From my memory this only happens when the macbook is plugged in with AC power. When on battery, I can always wake up the system from sleep very fast.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Anshun

    Hi freedomhas,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that sometimes your Mac is slow to wake. In this situation, I would recommend reading over the attached article and working through the If exiting standby or waking is slow section at the bottom of the article.

About standby on your Mac - Apple Support

If exiting standby or waking is slow

Your Mac might seem to be taking longer then usual to start up or seem slow to wake from sleep or standby. If this is the case, make sure the startup disk is set correctly in the Startup Disk preferences.

    1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu.
    2. Choose Startup Disk from the View menu.
    3. Make sure your internal drive is selected.

    Best regards,

    Joe

I am having this EXACT same problem. Only seems to occur when plugged in. Do I need to take it in for service? The article posted above offered no help.
