Has anyone found a solution to why iCloud Photo Library option unchecks itself?

When I first updated to Photos it seemed to work properly as it uploaded my entire photo library of 100GB. Following that it would get stuck on updating and now the iCloud Photo Library unchecks itself in the iCloud preferences and in Photos' preferences. What has changed since the first successful update was that I installed a SSD drive in my iMac and copied my home folder, except for the Photos Library, to that drive and use that as my login but kept the original Photos Library on my HDD and use that as my "System Photo Library". It seems this change in drives had something to do with it but I don't know what or how to fix it. Thanks
