Q: I just upgraded to 12.1.2.27 and now itunes will not shut down.

Computer is running Windows 7 64-bit, I have nothing related to Sony, nor do I have any bluetooth devices installed. I just clicked on the box that pops up when I turn on the computer that itunes needed to be updated to version 12.1.2.27.  Immediately upon this update (which also included iCloud), I tried to shut down iTunes, and I get the scripting error "One or more applications are using the iTunes scripting interface. Are you sure you want to quit?" In smaller print it says "If you do nothing, all applications that are using the scripting interface will be automatically disconnected in 11,10, 9.......seconds". I have tried ignoring it and just quit, I have also let the clock run down.  Either way, in about 10 seconds, iTunes starts up again.

What did Apple do in the update that forced iTunes to change and create problems? What can I do to fix it, besides in the future, ignoring these stupid messages telling me that I need to update?

    Howdy dcapen,

If you are having an issue with iTunes relaunching when you try to quit the application, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

Fix unexpected quits or launch issues in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support

While the context for the article is for iTunes unexpectedly quitting, or failing to launch, I believe that the steps may also be relevant to your situation.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Best,

I tried this method, but I have a problem reading backwards. You mention that this article is for when iTunes unexpectedly quits or shuts down. That means I would have to do all this in backwards mode, since my issue is that it will NOT shut down.  I tried the safe mode, but it did not resolve any of the options. I did uninstall and reinstall the program, and that worked - for about 2 days - then went back to turning itself on whenever I turned the computer on.  Now I would like to remove iTunes altogether and install the old version before the update. Is there any safe site where I can find the previous version to reinstall? And then my solution is to totally ignore any future update messages. Thank you.
