Q: What is the correct migration process from iPhone 5 to iPhone 6

Have just bought my iPhone 6 and still using iPhone 5.

Scared to lose data, so have plugged in the 5 to backup to PC, Do I just connect the 6 and restore from there without there being any compatibility issues? My old iPhone 5 will be given to my mum to contact UK family on FaceTime, so I plan on restoring factory settings so that she has clean phone for new setup, are there any issues to watch out for?

EEverything you need to know for moving to your new device - Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device - Apple Support (basically yes, backup the old, restore the new from that backup).

and giving away your old one - What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support (in particular, pay attention to the info about disabling activation lock).

Yes, after creating the iPhone 5 backup connect the iPhone 6 and restore to that backup.
