Q: Turning off iPhone6 disabling Find My iPhone

Dear Apple Support

I recently got my iPhone6 stolen and I had all security feature enable.....but guess what?

The thief had the "Basic Skills & Knowledge" after steeling it to turn off the phone (no PIN code or TouchID asked) and automatically disabling Find My iPhone.

Apple promotes the iPhone as one of the most advance and secure mobile devices in the world....is that really true?

Why cannot apple add a "stupid" feature in the next FW release then in Settings the user can enable or disable that when you are turning off the phone it asks you the PIN code so at least when it does get robbed at least it cannot be turned off?

thanks

iPhone 6, iOS 8.3

Somewhat pointless to my mind as there are other simple ways to defeat remote tracking. A simple foil pouch will do it by blocking all radio signals to and from a device (and yes, this is reportedly a well known and commonly used technique amongst people who routinely steal smart phones and tablets).

An active power button is sometimes necessary to undertake recovery operatuons. Adding a software layer to the power button function adds another potential layer of failure that might make it impossible to reset a device, or force recovery mode if needed.  And it would do so without enhancing anti-theft features or security even one tiny bit.

Despite what what many people think, find my iPhone was never an anti-theft feature. It is a courtesy feature to help people find lost devices. Activation lock is an anti-theft feature as nobody can activate and use your device as their own without knowing your iCloud account password.  With the use now of fingerprint scanners for access, it's also not a bad idea to disable the simple 4 digit passcode and go with a complex password. You normally won't have to enter it very often as you will use your fingerprint most of the time and it further reduces the chance of a thief guessing your slide to unlock passcode.

Report the theft to your carrier to get it blacklisted as well.

There are many other ways to "disable tracking". As has been said here:

    Battery running out

    Taking the SIM out

    Etc etc.

We now have many people here posting that they cannot access their phones because they have forgotten the passcode lock. Imagine many more who would have the same problem when they try to turn off their phones...and have forgotten the passcode lock?

    Your idea is brilliant...not.

In any case telling us will fall on deaf ears. We do not work for Apple and they do not monitor this forum.

Tell Apple directly of your "idea". Many have done so in the past:

Ok, so what do you suggest?

Critics are helpful when there are constructive....

Do you know why there still the passcode lock even in the iPhone6 with TouchID on?

Just to give you an example in high humidity environment the TouchID will fail (proven as I travel a lot in humid area for business). If you forget a 4 digit code maybe is better not to lock the phone, then you don't need to activate Find my iPhone too.....

The hole Idea of security is to avoid undesired actions to your properties, in this case turning off the phone by a stranger is an "undesired action", plus is a choice to enable or not, I'm not saying it will resolve the robbery problems...

That is really unnecessary. Provide feedback here, if you want: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

TouchID frequently fails in high humidity conditions (proven by my self) or if you have sweaty fingers. The reason why they don't disable the passcode pin when TouchID is enable is because is not reliable. TouchID is a confortable feature (to buy as well in the Store) not a security one.

1). As has been posted twice; post feedback in the appropriate place. Apple will not read it here. Moaning and groaning here will not help you.

2). Do a search of this forum and you will find that your "idea" has been discussed ad nauseam and the conclusion has been that the perceived benefits do not outweigh the potential downside.

Of course not, but you knew that before posting, didn't you?
