When I upgraded to OS 10.6, my Epson 3170 scanner driver quit working. I can scan paper items using Image Capture, but I cannot scan slides or negatives anymore. I tried downloading VueScan but all I got was a random pattern in the scan result. Please help.

That sounds more like a faulty scanner.
Epson does not support a driver for 10.6 for the 3170 scanner. I thought there might be another way - like 3rd party software or something.

According to Epson the driver should still work via Rosetta:

The Epson driver has an application launch failure - so I cannot follow the steps on the link. I Uninstalled and reinstalled it - same result.
Thank you for the handy link. I was also communicating with Epson and we figured out what I was doing wrong. No more problem.
