Mac Pro 3,1 crashing on sleep

When I try to wake up my 2008 Mac Pro I get the grey screen with the grey message box saying "Your computer restarted because of a problem. Press a key or wait a few seconds to continue starting up." This happens every time.

I tried to run Apple Hardware Test but it wouldn't load.

I have started up the Mac with Command-R and repaired permissions (with only the ARDAgent error remaining).

Any ideas anyone? Thank you. This is the kernel panic log: (sorry if there's too much of it)

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.

The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Thanks so much for your helpful reply Linc Davis - I have followed your instructions and removed 3 cards:

1. Blackmagic Decklink

2. brand new Sonnet USB3 card

3. RocketRaid 2322

I started the Mac Pro in Safe mode and it worked - it slept and was able to be woken up - and then I started it in Normal mode and it still sleeps and wakes up! Brilliant! (it still takes about 18 seconds to go to sleep, but then wakes up very quickly - in about 5 seconds)

Awaiting further instructions sir!

May 19, 2015 3:53 PM in response to Linc Davis

Thanks so much again Linc Davis - everything was going well - I had put back in two of the three cards (I hadn't put back the RocketRaid card yet as I expected that it might be the culprit) and the machine had run well for several days - waking very quickly from sleep - and then this happened today: I came to the machine to find that it had restarted itself earlier (and before that, someone else in my household had woken it up but unfortunately they are unable to tell me any details about the state that they found it in!) so I looked at the console and found all sorts of strange stuff that maybe you could help me with - including a reference to MacKeeper which was removed YEARS ago. Have I been hacked?? Apologies for the amount of code, but there seems to be significant stuff at the start and the end. Any ideas? Thanks so much in advance.

OK, so I probably put in too much info... does anyone know what these mean?

1. kernel[0]: disk1s1: media is not present.

2. kernel[0]: SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed, SENSE_KEY = 0x05, ASC = 0x20, ASCQ = 0x00

3. AppleUSBEHCI::SuspendUSBBus - port 2 was NOT already suspended (as it should have been) PROBLEMS AHEAD

4. com.apple.launchd[1]: (com.zeobit.MacKeeper.plugin.AntiTheft.daemon) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

Thanks!
