AirPlay peer to peer keeps cutting out!!!

One of the reasons I bought ATV is the peer to peer function, as I currently have no internet broadband provider.

I have up to date software on both my iphone 5s and ATV.

I can use Airplay peer to peer, and show videos on my phone on the tv. However after between 3-6 minutes every single time the feed ends and I am taken back to the ATV menu screen.

I have both wifi and Bluetooth turned on on both my phone and ATV.

Why does this keep happening. It is Apple talking to Apple.

I am at the end of my tether!

I have this same problem but on an enterprise level. I currently have two cases open with apple and have an Education Engineer out of chicago that is working on it with me. See below is what we have logged so far.

I just moved it over to wifi and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I literally just dropped 3 times in a 15 minute span.

Apple TV - A1469 Apple TV Software 7.2 (7512)

Ipad Gen 4 (same as teachers and students) - Model MD510LL/A on iOS 8.3 (12F69).

Thank you for the update, Michael.
Just as a test, can you join your Apple TV to your network (wired or wireless). We should be able to re-produce the issue in short order, it seems - I am going to escalate this issue again. We are seeing & being told that the updates to iOS & Apple TV have largely eliminated the “frequent AirPlay drop issue” and AppleCare needs to see your issue, since the latest updates have been applied and you’re still experiencing drops.

What model of iPad are you testing with? Is it the same as the iPads deployed to teachers?

Scott

Scott and Brian,
I think this may be mostly a iPad issue. I have been testing all this time with my macbook and haven't had a single problem in my office other than the first time wake up issue in the morning. So I switched it up today and started connecting with my ipad instead. I have been dropping in my office now with the ipad. I also noticed, which could be a coincidence but when mine dropped, I was able to see 2 other apple TV's all the sudden instead of just the rooms right next to me. I had it twice this morning so far in a matter of 10 minutes.

  • Cisco 5508 controller using 7.1.6.130 with AP models 2702 and 1142 with band steering to N.
  • Apple TV's were all replaced with latest model and used itunes to update them all
  • They have been left off the network because of inability in our network to segment out the buildings Bonjour wise because of a shared SSID between buildings. There were too many clients so they were constantly fighting for a spot in the list of airplay devices.
  • We were seeing disconnect issues with the apple tv over the Peer to Peer network because of a cisco setting with idle clients set to 30 minutes. This was disabled an it greatly improved connectivity.
  • We are still seeing issues in some areas where clients are getting disconnected. After talking to Scott and Brian I was told to look for AP's with a channel of 149-153. I have disabled those channels from being allowed as of the evening of 5/13/15. The teacher that was having the most problems was on an access point with those channels assigned. I have asked her to test it tomorrow and let me know the results.
  • We do still cisco setting enabled at this point that allows clients to be shifted based on Radio DB.
  • We are also seeing an issue with the apple TV's not waking up when being inactive over night. We were told by support to use the remote to wake them first before trying to connect to them via airplay over bluetooth discovery. I am waiting to hear back as far as how this is going.
