My iPod 5 won't sync with iTunes 12

I bought an iPod 5 a few months back and decided to put my albums that I had on CD still onto my iPod. I run iTunes version 12.1.2 by the way. When I tried to sync my music, iTunes won't register that my iPod is plugged into my laptop. I've tried restarting everything and now I'm thinking its just a hopeless cause.

iPod touch, iOS 8.3

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X

Or

See

iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows

- I would start with

Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

or

Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

- Then do the other actions of:

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

paying special attention to item #5

- New cable and different USB port

- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

I had the same problem with my iPod Touch 5th generation. After moving through recommendations by others (reset iPod, reinstall iTunes...), it still wasn't syncing. I could access my entire library as long as I was hooked into iTunes either directly or through wi-fi.

On a whim, I went into Settings on my iPod, then to Music. If you have an iCloud account, the default setting of the iCloud Music Library is "on". I switched it off and sure enough, the music in my library (stored on my laptop) began downloading! Yay!

I am not a technician but it strikes me that the default setup directs the iPod to search the iCloud first but then it goes no further. If the iCloud Music Library is disabled, the iPod then goes to the next available inventory...the music stored on the system.

Hope this helps - I know it's an incredibly frustrating situation! 😕
