Find My Phone

I have a battery that will not recharge. I want to bring it in to be serviced.. However, when i go to make appt at genius bar it tells me if I cannot turn off the
Find My Phone feature before coming to genius bar, no service can be performed. How does Apple expect me to do that? Why don't they tell you the Find My Phone feature has this catch 22 feature before u turn it on? Any suggestions beside buying a new phone? Am I understanding that if I make an appointment at genius bar for service they will turn me away and I throw out phone?

Whenever possible, you need to turn off Find My iPhone on the device itself first. If it's not possible, just remove the phone from your iCloud account.

See here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201351

Go to the section that says If you no longer have your iOS device for instructions on removing the phone.

That is sufficient. The phone will need to be restored after you've done those steps, but that is most likely part of the refurbishing process anyway.
