Apple ID additional verification required endless loop

Hello,

Recently one (and only one thankfully) of our iPads seems to be stuck in an endless loop requesting additional verification for my Apple ID. A little window pops up (step 1) with this message, tap settings and it takes you to the settings/ iCloud. At that point the terms and conditions window pops up asking for agreement, tap agree and agree again, it goes off verifying and then returns to step 1.

This loop repeats and repeats for hours. I've tried signing out of iCloud (you have to be quick otherwise step 1 stops you), turning the iPad on and off etc to no avail. Any ideas??? I have a useless iPad stuck in an eternal 2FA loop....

Hi Barbarellabella. If you have a very old iOS version on your device, you could try this method, which works for older Apple TVs, link: Re: appleTV keeps asking for appleID, password and authentication code circularly.

If that doesn't help, please describe your exact problem in more detail.

Which iOS version do you have?

What are you trying to do?

What happens whe you try?

Exact text of any messages?

I was able to fix this by hitting 'settings', and then hitting 'agree' and 'agree' on the boxes that pop up (hitting 'cancel' every time the verification window popped up) and then when it took me to the signin settings for iCloud, I hit 'continue' on the verification box (which sent an 'allow/don't allow to my phone - to which I replied 'allow' to get the verification code) then quickly turned on airplane mode (by sliding up the menu from the bottom), and then putting in my iCloud password with the 6 digit code it sent to my phone, after it, and then quickly turning airplane mode off and hitting 'Done' - and I got all 3 check marks for the sign in verification. Once the check marks came up, it did pop up the verification box one more time, and I hit cancel one last time. The trick is getting airplane mode turned on so that the internet connection is disconnected so it stops trying to verify, and then putting in your password and the code, and then turning airplane mode back off and really quickly hitting 'Done' after doing so. Anyway, that worked for me and the message hasn't come back. I didn't need to nuke the iPad. Hope that helps someone.

The Solution: Nuke the iPad, setup iCloud, then restore the iPad from a backup.

The steps are:

a) Backup ipad mini to an iMac.

b) Nuke the iPad: settings, general, reset, ERASE ALL content and data. Once it has done this it will revert back to the original factory settings. Activate the iPad from the Hello screen.

d) Trick: the activation will ask for the iCloud account. Enter this and agree to the terms and conditions. Eventually, the brand new iPad will be ready for use.

e) Restore the iPad from the iMac backup. Renter the iCloud details.

Fixed.

Thankyou to Apple support for providing the trick. Thankyou to Demo for lots of good ideas.

Demo,

Thank you for your wonderfully helpful persistance. I implemented your suggestion in the steps below.

a) between the maddening verification loop requests, I was quick enough to sign out of iCloud in the settings, iCloud area. It took a few goes to succeed. Once signed out, there were no iCloud settings. The infinite loop verification request still persisted!

b) I then did a hard reset ( holding down the sleep/ wake button and home button for 10 secs until the white screen with th apple symbol appearred)

c) upon the reboot and opening the iPad, the infuriating iCloud verification request loop had ceased. Horray.

d) I then signed back into iCloud on the settings, iCloud area. ( I use a different Apple ID for my iTunes App Store sign in and this hasn't been a problem).

e) the evil verification request loop began again with a vengeance. The iPad mini can't be used as this loop stops all processes. And is very persistent.

Curiously, we have 3 iPads and two iPhones and none of the other IOS devices are exhibiting this peculiarly infuriating behaviour. Maybe I should threaten the iPad mini with a warm bath!

Thankyou Demo,

BIll
