I am having trouble accessing the internet on my PC via airport express.

I have an older PC with windows XP, I can connect to my Airport Extreme Time Capsule wifi and access the internet without any problems. The issue is I also have two other Airport Express wifi which I can connect to with my PC but I can not connect to the internet. Internet Explorer times out when I try to connect to the internet.

The interesting thing is I have a Macbook Pro which I connect to all the wifi or the internet. Why can I only access the internet on the Airport Extreme but not on the Airport Express on my PC when my Mac has no problems?

Thanks,

When your PC connects to the Extreme (or TC) please open a command window and type ipconfig /all.

Copy and paste the connection here.. I need to see IP address, gateway and DNS.

When your PC connects to the express.. do the same thing.. either the gateway is wrong or DNS is wrong..

OR something really strange is happening due to difference in wireless chipset between the express and the extreme.

Not everything is the same.. some wireless clients .. think INTEL in particular.. have driver issues with connecting to different brands of wireless.

Your Extreme (there is no such thing as an extreme time capsule.. it is one or the other).. depending on model could have atheros or broadcom card in it.

The express I am not 100% sure since I never use them.. but be assured .. they can work differently.

Give all the details of the network.

What is the modem? Is it also a router?

How is the extreme / TC connected?

What mode is it running in, bridged or router?

What model is Extreme / TC, A1xxx from the base please?

What model are the express?

Are they wireless extending the network?

Please post the screenshot of the whole layout from airport utility in the Mac and show summary page on each device so I can see how they work.

There is an old rule of thumb.. atheros and broadcom don't mix.

You happen to have an atheros wireless card in the laptop and the Express Gen2 with broadcom wireless. (need to double check but I am pretty sure).

I was a computer tech doing network installs and often had issues with that particular combo. Hard to figure out stuff.. unreliable.. would work sometimes and not others.

Solution.. get a wireless USB stick.. not atheros. See how that goes.. there are tiny ones available now.. but a lot of them are atheros based..

Another thing you could try is to change the security level on the Express to WPA + WPA2 .. that will help in some cases. See if it helps at all..

And an even easier solution .. buy a TP-Link N lite router for about $30 and use it as AP for the windows laptop.. no joke. It will work easily. They are almost all atheros based.

I am having trouble accessing the internet on my PC via airport express.
