AVG Internet Security 2015 finds FakeAlert virus in iPhone backup directory - how to get rid of this?

When I back up my iPhone, AVG Internet Security 2015 on scanning reports that it finds the FakeAlert virus in the default backup directory. I have tried deleting the backups, clearing the directory and then doing a completely fresh backup..... Again, my anti-virus reports the presence of the FakeAlert virus in the fresh brand new backup. This would suggest that somehow my iPhone has picked up this virus, which I would have thought was impossible.......

Anyone had similar issues? If so, what was the resolution? (and please don't say "uninstall anti-virus........")

Hi and thanks for the response No, phone is DEFINITELY not Jailbroken - down that path lies all sorts of headaches that I am not prepared to take on!!

AVG reports that it has found and secured the virus, but it finds it again each and every time I run an iPhone / iPad backup. It is ONLY finding it in the \AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup directory............

Anti-Virus has very latest definitions; I'm also on the phone at Apple support, seeing if they have come across this previously. Currently being escalated to senior support as rep doesn't know what either AVG or the FakeAlert virus is.

I wondered if perhaps there was a certified app that somehow presents the same signature as the FakeAlert virus and so trips a false positive.......

Oh the rep was very very good - certainly don't hold it against him; he was polite and incredibly helpful....... I have sent a screenshot ofthe error off to Apple, along with a couple of other files they requested.

A second issue that seems to be related is that when I try to do a backup after the FakeAlert detection, iTunes tells me it couldn't backup as there was insufficient space on the computer, yet system properties tells me there is 188GB free ...... it needs the backup to be removed and the computer restarted for a backup to be able to be done.

To get around this in the meantime I have added an exception for the MobileSync\Backup directory to AVG, so that directory is not scanned.

I appreciate that Anti Virus companies are working hard to defeat the ever growing threat or more "intelligent" viruses, but I get the feeling that in the race to defeat those evil doers, things are being overlooked.........

That would seem to be the correct approach. I would suspect this falls under the category of "false positive" and can safely be ignored. It is also not a bad idea to exclude AV from real time scanning of the main iTunes folder as well, as in some cases it can disrupt iTunes in transferring content or updating library files.
