Other applications other than Google Chrome not connecting to the internet

While trying to access applications such as Radium.app, and Vienna.app (RSS), the requests time out. For example, I get this error message when using Radium.

I have tried pinging google.com in Terminal, and get

ping google.com

ping: cannot resolve google.com: Unknown host

And while pinging 216.58.220.142, Google's IP address

ping 216.58.220.142

However Google Chrome works, and I can connect to the internet in it.
