Q: Messages - a direct connection could not be established
Our office just upgraded to 10.8 and we are experiencing a problem with the Messages App. We all sign in with AIM accounts and text chat works fine, but we cannot transfer files.
When attempting to transfer a file, you can see a progress bar in File Transfers that says "waiting for user to accept", but no message appears in the other persons messages app to give them the opportunity to accept. Eventually it times out and says "a direct connection could not be established"
When using another client, such as Adium, file transfers work fine. This suggests the ports are open on our company router/firewall.
I have searched the forums and tried many things. I've changed the default port to 5901(which is what Adium uses). I've removed all ichat/message related preferences. I looked in Activity monitor, but I dont see the imfilehelper or urlfilehelper or anything similar to quit. We are at a loss, and Im thinking we will have to install Adium instead of using messages.
Can anyone offer some help?
thank you
