Q: Error 1671 when updating ipad

I finally "allowed" my iPad to upgrade to IOS 8.3. Very reluctantly, as a previous ipad was similarly bricked by an IOS update.

This is an "ipad new", third gen, 64GB. works fine, no issues.

First, I received the error that the update could not complete, and I had to "restore". Then the restore fails with error 1671, which is not in the list of errors on the linked page.

I have subsequently tried:

Resetting the power on iPad

Restarting computer, upgrading iTunes, tried from Mavericks and Yosemite.

re-downloading the upgrade from two different computers (old Mac Pro and a 2014 MacBook Pro)

Different ipad cable

Searching support forums, etc No one has a solution yet, although this issue seems to affect iPhones also.

(which is why my iPhone is not going to be upgraded any time soon! - I can't lose my phone over this reckless upgrade process.)
