My ipad was stolen last night and before I could even get on to lock it or locate it from my phone or computer my icloud info had already been changed. Wondering how that happened?? What's the purpose in having a "find my product" app if everything can be changed before I have the chance to do something??

Probably because you didn't have a passcode on it and had all your passwords remembered in Safari.

Well, the only way they changed your iCloud account settings was by knowing your iCloud account password. You should see if you can get in and if so change it. If not, contact Apple support by telephone and tell them you account has been compromised.
A couple of things for future reference are, obviously, reconsider using a passcode or fingerprint ID for slide to unlock. And two, consider setting up Apple two step verification.
Thanks. I did get in and change my password and I think I'll contact Apple as well just to be sure. Probably have to consider the passcode or fingerprint when/if I purchase another... just hated the extra steps but I hate people who steal more!!
