No Sound when new Mail comes in

The new mail sound has stopped working when a new piece of mail comes in on my iMac. It works on my iPhone/iPad.

Does anyone have any ideas? I have checked all of the settings and they seem to be set properly.

Can anyone help?

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Have you checked ... Systems Preferences > Sound > Sound effects > and is Mute unchecked in the output volume?

Yes, I did. However I set up another user on my iMac with a different Apple ID and it worked. It seems to be tied into my Apple ID.

Is there a fix for this?
