Q: Unable to 'create new version for iPad or AppleTV'
Recorded video on my iPhone 5s and wanted to transfer it to my iPad 2 air to use iMovie there. The movie shows up in my movies but iMovie will not add the document.
1. Imported the video to imovie: Went to device > Apps > scrolled down to imovie > Documents.. opened and selected the movie. Opened and selected the file and synced properly (watched it copy the file). Opened iMovie on my iPad and nothing. No video that I just added is listed.
After trying multiple times to delete and re-add I finally got an error message: "FILENAME was not copied to this ipad cannot be played on this ipad"
So according to this help article:Verifying iTunes video conversion and video syncing using sample QuickTime files - Apple Support
2. I tried to create a new version (after finally figuring out i have to press alt to get the stupid menu bar to show up) However the "create new version" options are greyed out for this file. I dont understand. I recorded this video on my iPhone 5s. Why can't imovie handle it? This is pretty ridiculous.
Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

update:
So i figured out that i had the file selected on the iPad menu within itunes instead of my library.
I was able to create ipad or imovie version. Added the file to the iMovie documents, saw it upload the file to my ipad during the sync and the video still isnt there when i open imovie on the ipad.
update again. Must hit import from itunes in imovie after this step.
This is so frustrating. Apple needs to stop advertising that this stuff all works together easily.
