Please help! Sorry, the original post did not show up, sorry

Deleted all my documents in document folder on accident. I was cleaning up desktop as I just started new set of classes. I deleted main Document folder; placed the a shortcut to the main folder on my Dock. When I emptied Trash, the Document folder was no longer was my Dock, only a shadow with a question mark. I was shocked, literally.

Researched in Apple Support Forum and found many great reviews/suggestions re Disk Drill as a much noted recommendation to retrieve lost files, etc.

Downloaded the app, however an additional app was included in the download off the company's main website.

Other app is called "S.M.A.R.T scan." Both apps cause OS 10.7.5 to go crazy slow, like slower than I have ever experienced.

Never did retrieve my deleted files. Disk Drill found them however in the trial, it would not let me save the PDF files, only preview them in the app.

Deleted app, deleted all saved files from the app, Disk Drill.

Unable to see where this S.M.A.R.T. scan app is located and cannot find way to delete. It is currently temporaly off, only option you can choose out of four options given.

Can someone please help me or let me know if there is alternate route to find all deleted files I need from original Document folder. Do not have a backup or anything. Also can someone please let me know how to delete this S.M.A.R.T. scan application.

Completed options: (1) Ran Disk Utility; First Aid; Permission Repairs Completed and (2) Deleted Disk Drill and all saved files off OS Master- S.M.A.R.T. can is still located on top bar where wifi, clock, and user name, etc. is located.

    Any helps is appreciated

Matt, items in the dock are aliases, not originals. Your documents folder should still be in your user folder. Mac Basics: The Dock holds your favorite apps, documents, and more - Apple Support

As far as uninstalling an application, have you checked the developers web site for removal instructions?
