sent for screen replacement but got replacement device

hi. I sent my iphone 6 for screen replacement, because it fall and screen cracked. Otherwise iphone was in full working order. Apple did diagnostic and sent me request to pay for screen replacement and added two photos of my phone with cracked screen. I paid amount they asked for. The next day I got an email from them, that they sent me replacement device and gave me all new identifying codes for iphone.. After that I spoke with apple support, they said that in the repair notes they don't see anything said about why they sent me replacement device instead of fixing it. Maybe some worker screw it up and something happened to my phone and that's why they sent replacement phone.

So my question is, has anyone ever had this situation? And will they send me absolutely new iphone or refurbished one? And will my warranty continues? because before they said that I will have my warranty what's left. But I heard from friend of mine that with replacement devices they give just 3 month warranty.

thanks for your answers

it will almost certainly be a factory refurbished device (which will have a factory installed new display and battery) sine a new unit would only ever be sent as a service replacement if there were no refurbished units available at the time. The refurbished units are indistinguishable from a new one though. Yes, your remaining warranty will be re-instated, or 90 days, whichever is the greater period.

As to why, nobody here could say. Perhaps they noticed other damage, say to the connector or whatever, and it just did not make it into the associated notes. The actual terms from Apple, if you read them fully, are that they reserve the right to repair or replace as necessary.

They do not guarantee to simple replace the screen on yours. They will replace the screen, or the entire device, at their discretion as they decide which is necessary Or possible in your case. They charged you for a screen repair, but may have simply decided to replace the entire device because they had service units available right now, but perhaps not separate displays. So rather than delay service, they just swap the whole thing for you.

REgardless, nobody here will know why they did what they did. You'd need to call Aapple and ask them why.

The age of your device has nothing to do with it. Service units are (almost) always factory refurbished units. You sent them a used device, not a new device. You will get a device that as I already said is indistinguishable from new. But there is nothing in the warranty that specifies you are entitled to a new, never sold/used device. Nobody's warranty offers that - your device, no matter what you think of its condition, became a used device the moment you kept it past any unconditional return for full refund period.
