Photos has a "Share" option "Add to Aperture".  So it is easy to add new photos to Aperture.

But to get the edited photos back to Photos you will have to export them from Aperture and then reimport them. That will not be a lossless edit, unless you export the photos from Aperture as a new library and then open the new library in Photos.

Many thanks for the answer Leonie. I just want to continue using Aperture for editing. Or do you perhaps have a better suggestion than this?  I haven't yet put my Aperture/iPhoto library into Photos. Is there anything that I should or shouldn't do if I want to use Aperture as an editor?

Sorry for the late answer, Brian.   I did not see your reply in the discussion.

You can use Aperture just as before, provided you updated to Aperture 3.6.

If you want to use Aperture only for editing, simply using the  "Share" option "Add to Aperture" and then reimporting to Photos should do.

Thanks again Leonie, One last question; will Aperture keywords work in Photos?

One last question; will Aperture keywords work in Photos?

Yes, the keywords will work. But they will not be hierarchical, since Photos has no hierarchical keywords.

See:  How Photos handles content and metadata from iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support

    • Keywords are preserved in Photos.
    • Photos preserves user-defined titles. Images without user-defined titles will show as "untitled" in Photos.
    • Most metadata is preserved in Photos. Some IPTC metadata, including Copyright, won't appear in Photos, but is still associated with the image and can be seen in iPhoto, Aperture, and other applications that display IPTC metadata.
