Actually the previous answers are not entirely accurate.

While the default pre-installed Youtube app no longer works, you can still download the Google Provided one for iOS 5.1.1, and it still works just fine. I have it on my first Gen iPad, and works without issue.

You'll need to download the current Youtube app to a computer running iTunes, and then from the Purchased Tab in the App Store App on the iPad download it to the iPad.

It will tell you its not compatible, but offer to download a compatible version instead.

No worries Demo, it happens to the best of us. As I said Apple's default Youtube App no longer works. However Google's own App does, at least it has so far for me. 😉

Unfortunately there's nothing I can do with the original non functional Youtube App, and since iOS 5.1.1 does not support folders, its just sitting there uselessly on one of the screens.

Thanks for this info. I'm going to aim to install an older google version of the YouTube app soon via a pc running iTunes then the purchased tab on app store app on iPad.

IN the meantime is there a way to disassociate the default action when clicking aYouTube link of my iPad trying to open it in the non functional Apple YouTube app?

You're welcome. I've tried Dolphin and it appears very similar to the way Safari used to look. You can also try Bing. My favorite alternative browser is Puffin but unfortunately that requires IOS 6. There are many more in the App Store. Just because Google doesn't want you to use YouTube doesn't mean we can't figure out a way to make it possible. 🙂
