Q: Dual Core Stuck at Grey Screen...tried everything

I had a topic open where i was trying to fix a non-working iTunes app.

I was on 10.6.8

I had accidentally deleted CarbonCore files so I decided to erase the drive and reinstall my OS (Mavericks).

At this point, the Grey Screen appears at startup and won't get past that screen.

When I startup, I have to hold OPTION in order to select which startup drive to use.

I have tried:

1. disconnecting all peripherals

2. Safe Boot

3. Resetting NVRAM and PRAM

4. Cursing

Any other thoughts?  This computer is pretty much useless at the moment and its a great Mac Pro

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Is it possible to pull the video card and attempt to boot and do a screen share from another mac to see if it boots up?

Only if the OS is setup for screen sharing.

However, since the target Disk mode icons show on the Mac's monitor it is likely not a video card problem.

If you have an install DVD run Apple diagnostics

Using Apple Diagnostics - Apple Support

If yo do not have an install DVD.

If the MacBook had Snow Leopard before, can you boot the Mac Pro in Target Disk Mode and startup the MacBook with Option key and select the Mac Pro's disk to start? This will test out the disk.

I have found a set of MacBook Pro OS X install discs.

I inserted DVD 1 into the MacPro and booted up holding D.  The computer booted and then went to a black screen with one white cursor line.

I quickly figured out it was the wrong DVD.

    I manually shutdown.

I put in DVD 2 and have repeatedly tried to boot up holding D, even holding OPTION D but the computer won't boot up to the Apple Hardware Test. I just get to the Apple Logo and spinning circle.

So, apparently these install discs are fairly old because it reads that the Apple Hardware Test is on the DVD 1.

I restarted hold D and the computer went to grey screen and is now stuck at BLACK SCREEN with one steady white cursor (non-blinking).

It won't get past this point.

    Any suggestions?

I brought the computer home and took out the video card and plugged in ethernet to my network.

Booted up and couldn't see the computer on my network.

I know I would be able to see it on my network as all the SHARING preferences were set previously to access the computer (unless resetting PRAM deletes those preferences?)

    I'm stuck at this point.

I reinstalled Snow Leopard and now the computer is up and running....except iTunes. iTunes will not open.

ANY insight into the crash report?
