Admin security on bootable drive -

I use a bootable drive with Mt.Lion OS running on it.I am trying to make changes in the network preferences to require admin authorization to turn wifi on or off (in the advanced tab).However it does not seem to take effect on the system.This option does work on the original OS on the Mac (Snow Leopard)!A forum member tried it out on an advance beta copy of Yosemite on a separate boot disk & it worked just fine! Could this be a bug? Any ideas on how I can get around this.I am basically trying to set up my iMac so internet use could be secured with a password.

I use comcast internet & connect to the modem via a wifi router.

Try System Preferences/Security & Privacy/General/Advanced. Check the box shown in the screen shot.

Thanks for the suggestion. On my Mac it says '…password to access locked preferences' instead of 'system wide preferences'. Anyway I went ahead & did that but when I tuned off/on wifi it never asked me for a password.Is this because I don't use a sign in password while accessing the computer?

You are welcome. The Wi-Fi password is probably stored in Keychain Access. I'm not sure there is a way to enforce requirement of an admin password to turn on the Wi-Fi.

Well on the advanced panel of Network Preferences there is a tab to check for 'require administrator authorization o turn wifi on/off' .However when I checked the box you suggested for system wide preference the tab for wifi preferences on Network preferences is not highlighted to change settings.

You need to have a user password in order for some of this to work.

System Preferences/Users & Groups - unlock the the padlock, select the use, then Change Password.

Thanks.That definitely works,however it does not solve my initial issue on setting up a password for wifi on/off despite the option offered on Network Preferences.I wish there was a way to get help from Apple but my iMac is run out of warranty.Just need to figure out this bug.
