I have an opportunity to buy the FCS 5.1 crossgrade off of eBay. The seller claims there are no serial numbers with it. I already have 5.0 installed on my G5 1.8 DP tower. Can I just install the crossgrade over my current install with no new serial number?

Nope...5.1 has different SNs that 5.0. You need the serial numbers if you want it to work.
