Q: upgrade to iPhone 6 plus

I just bought an iPhone 6 plus. I am attempting to restore my iPhone from my latest backup of my iPhone 5. My 5 has IOS 8.3 on it. The iPhone 6 plus only has 8.2 on it and I can't use the back up.  I don't have any earlier back ups of my phone with IOS 8.2.

What can I do?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Set it up as a new device, update it to 8.3, and then restore the backup.

    Hi Niel,

I did as you suggested, set up the phone as a new device, installed the new software update, then erased all content and settings, but now I cannot activate my new iPhone. I have no phone carrier showing up at the top and I keep getting the message "your iphone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes. If this problem persists, contact Apple Support at apple.com/support".

Any suggestions? I've been trying for about 15 minutes now.

    Thanks.
