Apr 26, 2016 3:43 PM in response to hueyoby o'crikey,I have a similar issue.
If a create an Event then later edit the Event, after I finished editing it it reverts to the pre-edited version.
This happens most of the time.
It is completely annoying having to do everything twice.
Chris.

Apr 26, 2016 6:57 PM in response to warwickwebbby warwickwebb,Actually just found that the following works for me:
When you double click to create a new event, *don't* type all your details into the pop-up window that appears. Instead, populate the details in the form on the right side of the screen (underneath the calendar). Click away to save changes.
I tried this multiple times. When populating in the pop-up window, it reverts to 'New Event'. When populating in the form on the right side of the app, it doesn't revert to 'New Event'.

Apr 28, 2016 5:53 PM in response to warwickwebbby Nyrd,I've been copying ( select event>command+copy ) the event immediately after creating it — before it has a chance to revert. Then when it reverts to "New Event" I delete it and paste it back in. Works every time, but you have to copy it just as soon as you close the edit window.

May 6, 2016 6:08 AM in response to warwickwebbby egt2323,I don't see the form on the right side of the screen underneath the calendar. I just see the calendar and the pop-up window that comes up when I double-click to create a new event. Can you help?
Thanks,
Greg

May 7, 2016 8:21 PM in response to warwickwebbby egt2323,I see it now that I updated by OS.
Looks like you can't do that without a pop-up dialogue box unless in the "today" view. Can't do it in the week or month view of calendar.
Thank you. That helps.

May 11, 2016 10:00 AM in response to SPSPSPby Annapolis63,It is now May of 2016, I continue to experience the same problem with iCal. What has happened to Apple's execution prowess, do they care anymore...sure looks like it. Apple response would be much appreciated.

May 27, 2016 7:48 AM in response to Annapolis63by shawnipod,It is so frustrating that this is still an issue. I use Calendar on a daily basis and this problem really slows my productivity down. I wish Apple would resolve this issue.

May 27, 2016 8:37 AM in response to shawnipodby Server rookie,For an organisation that says it pays utmost attention to detail, it's not living up to their promise when it comes to software other than the OS. I hate to say it but sw-development beyond the OS never got serious attention. Successful Apple branded apps were always bought as far as I can remember. And then hardly evolved.

Jul 8, 2016 5:09 PM in response to hueyoby sbatson,I know I'm chiming in late, but this is absolutely lame that Apple will not fix this in the OS it's a problem with.
Apple, not everyone can or wants to move to each new level of the OS as soon as you want them too, if ever. So much for, "It Just Works"...it's more like, "I Just Works....well sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't"
My work around has been to use my iCloud account and do it on the web.

Jul 9, 2016 10:18 AM in response to hueyoby Giant Jambo,Hi Hueyo
Thanks for this workaround, although I'm not sure I quite understand 'contextual menu' and 'right click' on a MacBook Pro. Are you saying, save the event without changing the calendar (usually the point when it defaults to 'New Event'), then amend the calendar holding down the <Cmnd> key as you do it? That's worked for me so far, but I may have just got lucky.

Aug 30, 2016 8:12 PM in response to hueyoby Findoc,Another work-around is to copy the event the moment it is assigned and before it is over-written as new event (happens when sync to calendar in iCloud), then delete the new event (which is default selected) then paste, bingo, the event you created is there and this time it stays.
