Q: Trying to backup iPhone to iCloud

I have an iPhone6+ and it is backed up to my computer but I also wanted to back up to iCloud = it says it was last backed up in March.  The computer side backup is fine but it's the only one I have and I'd like an iCloud one as well.  But when I click on iCloud to back up to and click on Back Up Now nothing happens == the phone is unlocked, plenty of storage in iCloud, I did quit all apps and restart, battery charge is full = I can see the little twirly thing going around and round to indicate a backup [I think] - But while the backing up is done to the computer, the iCloud is not receiving a backup = I have switched the Automatic backups to iCloud [from Computer] to see if that will work.  But, I'd like to be able to manually cause a backup to iCloud and it's just not taking.
