ipod 2nd generation shuffle not recognized by iTunes on my mac

When I plug my iPod Shuffle 2nd generation into my Mac, it isn't being recognized by iTunes. The Shuffle is showing up on the desktop as if it was an external device or something like that. I've tried different USB cords and USB slots to no avail. The iPod blinks alternating green and yellow lights which seems to indicate from the users manual that it has no music loaded. I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.3. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hey Thomas,

From what I gather, your iPod shuffle isn’t recognized by iTunes on your Mac. Take a look at the article linked below and try running through the troubleshooting suggestions that it provides.

If you don't see your connected device in iTunes for Mac - Apple Support

Thanks Jason. However, after following the link and trying all these steps, iTunes still will not recognize my iPod. Any other ideas?
