Q: photos freezes but says is importing new photos from my iphone6

I am trying to import new photos into the Photos app on my MacBookPro Retina 15 from my iphone6.  Photos identifies the number of new photos and I selected to import them.  Screen says importing, but nothing happening.  No photos loaded, no images, no last import...  Waited and waited.  Said to quit photos and it said woulld lose import, so kept it open.  But still, nothing happening!  So quit Photos, but Photos won's quit... says "closing library".  Seems frozen!  I have finally force quit photos.  Any one else have this happen.  Ideas?

Note.  After force quiting Photos... reopened Photos and then imported the photos from the iPhone without the slowness or freezing.  Not sure what happened before, maybe Photos just decided to freeze; but at least the photos are now in Photos.

I keep running into this problem as well, and has now expanded to happen even if I don't move off the "Albums" tab. Reported previously Import from iPhone Slow/Hangs when clicking the Import button when import is in progress

Same exact problem. Haven't been able to import from my iPhone6 to my Mac for weeks. Says it's importing but it just hangs. Try to stop import nothing happens. Try to quit Photos and it just says it's "closing library" but never quits. I have to force quit every time. This app is a POS

    Macbook Pro, iPhone 6, Photos

Any solution yet? Having the same problem for weeks now. Very frustrating.  Even went out and replaced my HDD with a 1Tb SSD, in hopes its a performance and/or space issue, but to no avail.

Note your statement is incorrect. The OP had to force quit the app then restart the app then the photos imported. I have to do the same thing often but not always.

PLease explain how "sounds like you are using a computer" is a useful reply to anyone.

I just had this problem with trying to upload my photos onto my mac as well.  I had 2000+ photos and it would get 18 uploaded and then freeze.  When I tried to force quit it would say "closing library" but never actually close it.  I retried this numerous times after restarting both my computer and phone, but it happened over and over.

I don't know if this was actually a solution, but I deleted the Instagram folder in my photos and then turned off iCloud photo library and then it worked perfectly.

Maybe try that and see if it works?

    Good luck!

Is there an answer to this yet?

I am extremely tempted to just stop using Photos and go back to iPhotos (becasue I never had any issues importing to iPhotos), but I am afraid that there will be a loss of files; not to mention - given their track record - that Apple will soon stop supporitng iPhotos all together and then I would be right back where I started.

Apple (or anyone) PLEASE help with this issue!!!

I had the same issue, when I turned off iCloud and deleted the Instagram folder on my phone, it worked fine.  Not sure exactly what it was that fixed it, but maybe try turning off iCloud!

    Hello All

Having the same exact problem and after researching a lot, came up with a simple, but conclusive solution!

Simply close all applications, open Disk Utility, select the drive where your photo library is and select "Repair Disk Permissions".

I have a 1TB HD with 200MB free space and it took about 5 minutes to run, fixing several permission errors - you can view the errors being found and fixed while running the process

After that, importing photos from my iPhone runs smoothly and much faster

Hope this helps you all as well

    Hello all,

I was experiencing the same issues, my photos app would freeze. The only thing I untoggled was the 'Delete items after import' Checkmark. After that, my 1000 photos/videos imported smoothly.

Thank you for this response.  With the added step of rebooting my computer after, this worked like a charm.  Thank you!
