Updating one machine on OS X 10.3 from another on 10.4.11?
Hi Friends,
I am working on 30+ years of Macs bring older ones back into use and giving them new roles.
Most were put into storage becasue they stopped or were replaced at a time when parts were hard to find (pre www..Amazon...eBay and recyclers!) and quotes from Apple Suppliers were often loaded to encourage a new purchases rather than make good what you had.
I already have an old LC working again and a PB 1400 going faster and being a useful scsi transfer option. :-)
I have now moved on to my old iMac G3 Indigo, which only works in so far as the switch light goes on and turns off but nothing else happens. Having tried every simple option PRAM battery etc. to no avail - Aa good friend suggested buying a new working model would be better than surgery, Cheaper too.
Luckily I found a working iMac G3 600 (currently on OS X 10.3.9) at a reasonable price and I have done some basic cleaning and OS updating. The iMac also runs the Flash memory card in a USB card reader. I also have a FW to FW DVD Drive which runs fine with the iMac.
I have a Pismo running 10.4.11 but its FW is not working :-(
Q. Is there some way I can update the iMac 600 to 10.4 from the Pismo?
- USB on the Pismo is fine and the CD/DVD drive runs fine too. The Pismo also runs a PCMCIA Card carrier with a Flash Memory card in the slot fine. It also runs a PCMCI WiFI Card fine!
Q. Should a PCMCIA FW card in the Pismo work?
My current MBP has been great for fast downloading old data and progs via USB 3 Memory stick and flash memory card!
Advice most welcome?
Colin
