Handling the Date in Pages v 5.5.3

Pages v 5.5.3 has a new way to insert the date but it doesn't seem to offer the choice of whether or not the date is updated to today's date when the document is saved and re-opened.

Am I missing something? And what does Pages v 5.5.3 do to the inserted date by default when the document is saved and re-opened?

Thanks guys.

Date/Time from the Insert menu does not auto-update in any version of Pages v5. To get auto-update of Date/Time on document open, you will need to make a one-cell table, and use the now() function. You can style the cell with the Date and Time Data Format settings that you want, and in the Table tab, you click Column Fit to shrink-wrap this cell content around the chronology.

Hi Stuart,

Pages v 5.5.3 has a new way to insert the date but it doesn't seem to offer the choice of whether or not the date is updated to today's date when the document is saved and re-opened.

Do you want the date to remain static (date when entered) or to automatically update each time you open that document?

There are ways to 'fix' the Date & Time with Menu > Copy and then Menu Paste Formula Results into a different cell.

Please call back with clarification. Are you using a table?

Regards,

Ian.

The date when inserted in any version of Pages v5 is a static date. If all you want is that static date, then you need do nothing after the initial insertion. If you want to update it on demand, you left click on the date, and on the pop-up, you select, “Set to Today.” If you want a dynamic date that updates when the document is opened, that technique is in my previous post.
