11 inch macbook air battery life below expectations

New (3 days use) 11 inch macbook air's battery lasts only 3-4 hours while watching youtube or netflix videos. My understanding is that the battery should last aorund 10 hours. I opened the box and used the computer until the battery died, then I charged it. Did I do something wrong here? What can I do to increase battery life?
