I just realized that of the 500 GB on my iMac 250 of them are used up by video my kids have saved. How do i move those videos to an external drive and then how do I set up their profiles so that videos go there automatically and not my machine 🙂

However if the videos are not in iMovie then it's much easier, simply drag and drop them onto the EHD using Finder. Create 2 Finder windows, Window #1 should be where the videos are currently stored, Window 2 is the EHD. Then just drag and drop, once that has been done then Move the files from Window #1 to the Trash and empty the Trash.
