How do I free up space on my Iomega HD?

I am using my IMac to record music. I am using ProTools recording program. I backup my files to a 500 Gb Iomega HD by copy and paste. I need more space on my Iomega, but when I delete files, it does not free up space. Why? I delete the files by sending them to the trash can. I restarted my computer in order to reboot the Iomega, but it did not free up the space.

After putting files into the Trash you must then Empty the Trash. Here are three ways:

Hover the mouse over the Trashcan in the Dock. CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Empty Trash from the context menu.
From the Finder's Finder menu select Empty Trash.
Press SHIFT-COMMAND-DELETE together.

Thanks, Kappy. When I started my computer the next day, the computer said that I now have 250+ Gb's of space available. Apparently, the computer will not update the properties info immediately, nor on a restart. But it did update the properties after I did a complete shutdown and then a startup the next day.
