IMac G5 F9 menu help

I have an Imac G5 isite and i wanted to make a movie on Imovie when i go to open it the top bar it says it open and i can use all of those functions but i just see my desktop background when i hit the F9 button i can see Imovie i just cannot click on it or do anything with it. I am not connected to an external monitor or projector.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), Imovie help as well

Was it ever connected to an external display? Sometimes it remembers that fact, and won't change anything until you connect to an external display and select mirroring. That forces all windows that were on the external display to go on the main display.
