Q: How do I import photos from an sd card

I am trying to upload photos from my camera's SD card.  In iPhoto there was no problem doing that, but in Photos I see the card when it opens finder, but it is greyed out.  I cannot find any help from the help menu. The only thing I have been able to find is by connecting my camera by a cord to my Macbook.  This seems like a step back, especially since the card reader is built into my Macbook.

Anyone know how to do it?

Thanks for your assistance.

Can you view the card on the Desktop or isn't it showing at all? If you can see it with the Finder copy the files from it to a folder on the Desktop and import from there.  Make sure the import was successful and the images are safely in the library before deleting the folder from the Desktop.

If you intend to delete the files from the memory card do so with the camera.  Reformatting with the camera is the method I recommend as it is the safest.

I can see the SD card on my desktop.  I can open them in preview.  When I select import from the drop down menus in Photos the card is there, but the DCIM is greyed out.  I cannot open it from there.

I had no problem loading from the card in iPhotos (before the upgrade).  I can upload them to Aperture, but not in Photos.

I do delete them with the camera and format with the camera, but that isn't the problem.

    Thanks for your help.

If you copy the files from the card to the Desktop can you import from there by dragging them into the open Photos window?

If I open the card with finder from the desktop then I can drag and drop them, but that does not allow me to choose which ones to import and which ones not to, as it was in iPhoto.

I went to an air show and there are other pics on the card.  I want to only import the ones from the air show. I hope that explains it better.  I could do that in iPhoto, but without Photos recognizing  my card it seems I have to try and remember the number of the photo and which ones I want and don't want.  This is very cumbersome.

I also cannot find any way to delete photos in Photos.

Sorry for going on so long, but it seems Apple took something easy to use and made it into something that isn't.

    Thanks for being patient.

I just figured it out.  If I go to to import it works like iPhoto did.  Too simple I guess.

    Thanks again for your help.
