Select them all, trash them all (using the trashcan in Mail)

Hi. Highlight the first mail you want to delete, hold Shift key and highlight the last one you want to remove. Click on remove and everything between those two will be selected for removal

I have an old (2007) IMac, but have installed the new Yosemite OS. I have an Ipad and
can select and trash, but do not know how to "select and trash" on the IMac.
Can you assist?
