Q: cap locks key won't work

Although I don't often use the "caps lock" key, it is now disabled on my laptop. Have no idea why. Am looking for a possible resolution short of removing the key and "cleaning up" whatever needs attention. If removing the key is necessary, is there anyone out there who can instruct me?  I am fairly software literate, but a real klutz when it comes to hardware.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

    I have had the same issue, did this and it works

    Go to System Prefs > Keyboard > Modifier Keys.

    Now change the Control Key option to show Caps Lock. (Don't change the others)

    Don't ask me how it works but it does.

    It also fixed my screen shot too (Cmd + Shift + 3)??
