iPad phone call screen buttons do not work

My iPhone is linked to my iPad. I can make a call from the iPad but none of the screen buttons will respond. The call cannot be cancelled except by going to the iPhone and canceling.

iPad Mini, iOS 8.3, iPhone 5S, iOS 8.3
